I'm experimenting with Lux at the moment, it's a great one, though still trying to optimize the settings speed vs quality. I'm even thinking of getting a second cheap rig just for rendering.
Luxrender is indeed good, but although I have a pretty good PC, times are still long, the last image I did took 3 hours, around 300samples and that's short and seems if you want to decent image clear of noise, 1000 samples seems to be a minimum :/.
The way I see it, if people are going for the final render in Lux, leave it rendering over night. And there's another great thing, you can stop the render and resume later
