Interior Lighting Test by VickyM72 Interior Lighting Test by VickyM72
Made with Blender 2.65a, rendered in BI

Testing some unconventional lighting in Blender Internal.
One sun coming from behind the corner, two area lights facing each wall. No lights behind the windows, although I have some hidden on another layer and they look pretty sweet, I will probably add them later. Environment lighting on "White" and a setting of 1.2. One Soft Light mix node in the compositor. That's about it :D

Thanks! :iconmonkeydanceplz: It's Blender's "mascot" Suzanne, but it's meant to be used as a base object for lighting/material tests like the Utah teapot. :D

All your work is so very excellent! Very realistic! So what's the exercise-chair-monkey-face-with-two-ears-and-eyes-with-a-heart-noze-and-a-weird-mouth thing in the corner? :D

Excellent lighting setup.
Would it be too much to ask for a tutorial on how you set it up for those of us (such as myself) who aren't so good at lighting?

That would be awesome, as I've always felt that lighting and background are definitely my weaker points when it comes to Blender.

Lighting and background is a weakness in anyone using any 3-D program...and lighting especially. I am by no means a master at this, I am still poking around a lot, but lighting is the most important thing to me. Here's an awesome reference to lighting: [link] It's for YafaRay, but it applies to any render engine. Lots of people use VRay or Cycles, simply because of the global illumination/indirect lighting, but you can do it in any render engine. Doing GI in direct lighting is technically "faking it", but you'd need a magnifying glass to see the difference. Stop in my chatroom if you get a chance [link]

Thanks for the link to the tutorial. Although I'm already pretty familiar with the basics of ray tracing, anti-aliasing, etc. My real problem is with technique, as I can never seem to extract that pretty result that the tutorials display in practical usage on my own models.

Technique? You lost me there..lighting is lighting no matter what you make :D

What I mean is that I have problems getting a lighting setup which provides the best contrast on the model (I.e. enough contrast in shadowed ares and correct effects on reflective components).

There is no setup. Understanding lights, their areas, their shadows...that is what it is all about :D Only then can you light a ball on a floor, or the Taj Mahal :D
